COMPARAÇÃO ENTRE MOLDAGEM CONVENCIONAL E MOLDAGEM DIGITAL EM PRÓTESE TOTAL – REVISÃO DE LITERATURA
INTRODUCTION: Complete dentures play a fundamental role in the oral rehabilitation of edentulous patients, restoring esthetics, masticatory function, and phonetics. For their fabrication, the impression stage is essential, as it determines adaptation and clinical success. Traditionally, conventional impressions have been considered the gold standard, but technological advances have introduced the digital workflow as an alternative. This article presents a narrative literature review, comparing the two techniques and highlighting their applications, advantages, and limitations. METHODS: This review was based on articles retrieved from the PubMed database, as well as reference textbooks on complete dentures and biomaterials. In total, 20 references were included, drawn from these research platforms. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review is to compare conventional impressions with digital impressions, analyzing and evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of each method in denture fabrication. DISCUSSION: During the review, authors present divergent opinions, with each supporting the approach that best fits their clinical routine. Some, in fact, conduct studies demonstrating the effectiveness of each impression technique and their advantages compared to alternative methods. CONCLUSION: There is no evidence confirming that one method is more effective than the other, as outcomes largely depend on the clinician’s technique and the impression method employed. This review highlights the need for further research on the topic, as well as its clinical applicability.
