Economic burden of leading purulent-septic infections in adult patients of a cardiac surgery hospital after open-heart surgery

The addition of purulent-septic infections to the underlying disease in hospitalized patients leads to an increase in the duration of their inpatient treatment and leads to an increase in the cost of hospitalization. An annual assessment of the economic damage from septic septic infections is carried out abroad, which amounts to about 55–60 billion dollars in the United States, 13–24 billion euros in European countries, and about 10 billion pounds in the UK. Unfortunately, domestic publications provide only general information about the costs of purulent septic infections in the Russian Federation. The aim is to assess the economic damage caused by leading purulent — septic infections in adult patients of a cardiac surgery hospital after open-heart surgery. According to the results of an assessment of the economic damage from leading purulent-septic infections in adult patients of a cardiac surgical hospital after open-heart surgery, it was found that the cost per case of infection in the surgical area averages 1048648.6 rubles, which is equivalent to 11349.0 US dollars (as of 2024). The economic damage caused by a case of nosocomial pneumonia not related to artificial ventilation is on average 436339.8 rubles (4772.3 dollars), ventilator-associated pneumonia — 779905.4 rubles (8436.8 dollars).
