Appendix II -The Five Generations of Global Power (G⁰-G³)

This appendix develops a generational framework (G⁰–G³) to decode the historical and symbolic logics of global power. It links classical theories of international relations with contemporary algorithmic infrastructures, showing how legitimacy evolves from tribal and theological authority to industrial, globalized, and finally symbolic-algorithmic governance. By integrating political, financial, technical, and social layers, the framework provides a structural grammar for analyzing legitimacy, resistance, and systemic crises in international relations. This work forms part of the Third Generation in IR project

Abstract

This appendix develops a generational framework (G⁰–G³) to decode the historical and symbolic logics of global power. It links classical theories of international relations with contemporary algorithmic infrastructures, showing how legitimacy evolves from tribal and theological authority to industrial, globalized, and finally symbolic-algorithmic governance. By integrating political, financial, technical, and social layers, the framework provides a structural grammar for analyzing legitimacy, resistance, and systemic crises in international relations. This work forms part of the Third Generation in IR project
