Imagism and Pictoralism in Abdul Hadi Ayubi's Haikus
This research shows that Imagism or image-based poetry is considered the foundation of poetry. It needs to be concise, precise, and straightforward. Its core principles were using Haiku, applying language close to everyday speech, and avoiding rhetorical sermonizing. Imagists were also interested in Haiku, the short and lyrical Japanese poems, because of their concise and precise depiction of objects and scenes from nature. Abdulhadi Ayoubi is one of the country's most influential contemporary short-form poets. His Haikus, like those of other poets in this literary form within the realms of Iranian and Afghan literature, are image-based compositions. The question is whether Haiku is a type of poetry that lacks a specific ideology and, through imagery, distances itself from ideological aspirations. This type of poem can be admired like a photograph since one of the characteristics of Imagist poetry is interpretability. Ayoubi’s visual Haikus are also open to interpretation. This research aims to demonstrate his techniques in imagery without relying on traditional imaginative elements. By studying his works, one can conclude that he has approached the concept of imagery, nature observation, and creative mental artistry in Haiku writing, focusing on the elements of Imagism and nature photography. Consequently, it can be said that Ayoubi is one of the most prominent talents in the field of Haiku writing within the scope of Persian literature in Afghanistan. His works reflect the thoughts of Sepehri and Shamlou in this literary and poetic domain. However, in this process, he has deviated from the classical definition of imaginative forms, experimenting with imagery without using the traditional tools of fantasy and imagination.
