Analytical Study of Binary Oppositions in Jami's Poems With a Structuralist Semantics Approach
According to structuralism semantics, no word can be defined independently of other words because each word is related to another word in terms of its meaning structure or helps to define its meaning. It is with this approach that the opposition between words arises. Oppositions are one of the most critical topics of interest to structuralism and post-structuralism semanticists, which can be traced back to human mythological and cultural beliefs. The topic of lexical and reciprocal contrasts, which has a special place in linguistics, can also play an essential role in literary research, especially in the criticism and analysis of texts. The present study examines binary oppositions in the poetry of Khatam al-Shuara Nooruddin Abdul Rahman-e-Jami, considered one of the leading stylistic poets of Persian-Dari literature. Based on the research findings, it has been determined that traces of binary oppositions can be found throughout his Divan. In the present paper, the terminological concept of binary oppositions is examined and analyzed descriptively and analytically, taking into account multiple perspectives, using library tools. Then, the roots of the oppositions at the superstructural and substructural levels are categorized and concisely explained and interpreted in specific odes of Jami.
