Pathological insights into mycoplasmosis in a broiler bird (Gallus Gallus Domesticus): a case study
A pathological study was undertaken on a case suspected of mycoplasmosis in a natural setting. The symptoms before death consisted of respiratory distress, open mouth breathing, occasional coughing and dullness. The broiler bird was presented for necropsy examination at the Department of Veterinary Pathology, DGCN COVAS, Palampur. Gross pathological findings included congestion of trachea and lungs, lungs showed severe congestion, presence of a caseous plug at tracheal bifurcation and tracheal lumen and hydropericardium. Histopathologically, tracheal mucosa was found to be sloughed with moderate congestion along with the infiltration of lymphocytes in the lamina propria. In the lungs, blood vessels were found engorged with RBCs and a few RBCs outside the vessels, indicating minute haemorrhages. Based on clinical symptoms, gross and microscopic findings, the present bird has probably succumbed to death because of mycoplasmosis.
