Pain Education in the Digital Age – Opportunities, Challenges & the Future of Hybrid Medical Training

This presentation, originally delivered by Dr. Gautam Das, MD, FIPP, FIAPM — Founder & Director of Daradia: The Pain Clinic — at SARPS Conference, New Delhi on 26th Sept 2025, explores how pain medicine education can evolve from traditional lecture-based models to a hybrid digital approach that is more accessible, cost-effective, and skill-oriented. It reviews the traditional medical teaching framework (lectures, bedside clinical teaching, cadaveric workshops, and small group mentorship) and examines its limitations in scalability and global reach. The work then highlights digital innovations transforming medical learning today: Multimedia integration (3D models, animations, video lectures) Real-time interactive tools like quizzes & polling Learning Management Systems (LMS) for structured e-learning Virtual bedside rounds and case discussions High-fidelity C-Arm and ultrasound simulators for radiation-free interventional pain training Virtual reality & haptic feedback for safe skill practice A 75% online / 25% offline hybrid model is proposed — blending online lectures, flipped classrooms, virtual demonstrations, and case-based learning with on-site hands-on workshops to ensure both accessibility and essential tactile skill development. The session also addresses challenges such as the digital divide, faculty adaptation to technology, limited patient interaction, and engagement fatigue — while providing strategies to maintain high-quality learning outcomes. Daradia continues to lead globally in online pain fellowships and simulation-based training, empowering physicians with cutting-edge knowledge and hands-on expertise in interventional pain medicine. 🔗 More resources & courses: https://daradia.com🔗 Read the full blog version: https://daradia.com/pain-education-in-digital-age/
