(Re)Lire la catastrophe d’un point de vue féministe
Since the 1990s, feminist sociology has been striving to place gender issues on the agenda of disaster studies. In this context, given that the documentation of disasters is largely done in a masculinist voice, literature serves, on the one hand, as a seismograph recording women’s experiences of droughts, tsunamis and earthquakes. On the other hand, given that the leading positions in disaster management are essentially occupied by men, literature, by reversing the gendered conditions of disasters at the level of history and discourse, marks out a laboratory ground for considering other disaster scenarios. (Re)Reading disaster from the point of view of Feminist Disaster Studies therefore means identifying the social switches that determine the gendered experience of disasters, as well as proposing changes to the spirit of gender equality.
