Cybersecurity in Digital India: Enhancing UPI Security with AI-Driven Behavioral Biometrics
This study addresses the growing cybersecurity challenges in India’s rapidly expanding Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ecosystem, which processed over 14 billion transactions monthly in 2024. With fraud losses exceeding ₹1,250 crore in 2023, the study proposes integrating AI-driven behavioral biometrics to provide continuous, passive, and real-time authentication. By analyzing distinctive user behavior patterns such as typing cadence, swipe dynamics, and device handling, the framework aims to detect anomalies instantly, reducing fraud risk without compromising user convenience, thereby enhancing the security and trustworthiness of India’s digital payment infrastructure.
