ASSOCIATION OF FLUID OVERLOAD AND PULMONARY HYPERTENSION IN PATIENTS ON HEMODIALYSIS

Background: The term "chronic kidney disease" (CKD) refers to abnormalities in kidney structure or function that have been present for three months or longer and have an impact on health. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a heterogenous disease involving pathogenic remodeling of the pulmonary vasculature, which increases pulmonary artery pressure and vascular resistance. Aim of the study: To evaluate the effect of fluid overload on pulmonary hypertension in patients on hemodialysis. Patient and Methods: This is a cross sectional study that was conducted at Al Medical city dialysis center in Al Baghdad teaching hospital in collaboration with dialysis department during the period from the 1st of December 2024 to the 31st of May 2025. The present study 100 patients were included. Results: In the present study 100 patients were included, the mean age of presentation and surgical intervention was 49.0±12.5(20-69) year, 73 were males and 27 patients were females. they were evaluated according to history of patients, clinical examination, Laboratory finding, BCM assessment and Echo study. Pulmonary hypertension was finding in 50 % of them. Conclusion: the conclusion of this study that there is direct effect of fluid over load in patient with end stage renal disease which lead to many clinical manifestations so we recommended fluid restriction, avoid nephrotoxic drug, control of risk factor, adherent to session of dialysis with regular follow up and assessment.
