Emerging Role Of Multifaceted Drugs In Diabetes Care
Diabetes, particularly Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), poses significant global health challenges, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This review examines the emerging role of multifaceted drugs in diabetes care, focusing on their efficacy in managing hyperglycemia and associated comorbidities, such as cardiovascular risk and obesity. Key drug classes, including sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide / glucagon-like peptide-1 (GIP/GLP-1) receptor agonists, and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) agonists, are discussed for their mechanisms of action and clinical benefits. The review highlights the advantages of combination therapies, particularly the synergistic effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists, in enhancing treatment outcomes. As personalized medicine gains prominence, the need for ongoing research to establish the long-term safety and efficacy of these therapies across diverse populations is emphasized. This review aims to provide insights into the transformative potential of multifaceted approaches in diabetes management.
