New Geographical Records of Parafuscosporella garethii (Fuscosporellales) and Canalisporium elegans (Savoryellales) in Philippines

Two freshwater Sordariomycetes – Parafuscosporella garethii (Fuscosporellaceae, Fuscosporellales) and Canalisporium elegans (Savoryellaceae, Savoryellales) – were newly recorded from submerged decaying woods in Danicop-Ticugan spring, Loon, Bohol, the Philippines. Morphological analyses identified isolates UPVMI 24–0005 and UPVMI 24–0006 as conspecific with the holotypes of P. garethii (BBH 40839) and C. elegans (IMI 326603), respectively. The conidia of Parafuscosporella garethii were coronate, obpyramidal, and with conical projections arising from the tip of conidia with 4–9-conicals, whereas those of Canalisporium elegans were flattened, muriform, and with 5–7 transverse septa and 4–5 longitudinal septa. This represents the first report of these species in Philippine freshwater habitats. Detailed descriptions, illustrations, and comparisons to closely related taxa are provided for both fungi.
