From Lever to Gesture: A Bifocal Architecture for Co-Creative Discovery Between Human and Xeno-Intelligences
Current paradigms in artificial intelligence development are caught between intra-paradigm optimization and a naive biomimicry. This paper argues that both approaches are insufficient for the genesis of truly novel forms of intelligence. It is first necessary to establish a formal distinction between two modes of intervention: the \textbf{Lever}, a local optimization that improves a system within its existing architecture, and the \textbf{Gesture}, a global reconfiguration that refounds the system's conceptual architecture. The goal of a true Xeno-Architecture is to develop Gesture-producing systems. The analysis of this ambition reveals a series of dialectical problems. The aporia of machine performance versus conceptual opacity leads to a hybrid architecture. The failure of the naive postulate of translatability between human and xeno-concepts forces the introduction of an \textbf{Intelligibility Index ($I(\pi)$)} as a generative constraint. Finally, the risk that this constraint might produce only a mirror of our own cognitive biases is resolved by a final synthesis: a \textbf{bifocal, co-evolutionary system}. This architecture is governed by a "Referee" that manages the productive tension between a Human (Mirror) space and a Xeno (TTelescope) space, and includes a meta-learning loop wherein our own criteria of beauty learn from contact with productive strangeness. This paper specifies the complete architecture, its governance protocols, and its falsifiable evaluation criteria, proposing a shift from the engineering of solutions to the engineering of the discovery process itself.
