Water Monsters in World Folklore: A Literature Review

This literature review examines the worldwide occurrence of water monsters across several principal categories: general water monsters and cryptids, specifically lake monsters, sea monsters and marine cryptids, mermaids and water fairies, legendary entities such as the Kraken, and notable instances like the Loch Ness Monster. By looking at these different traditions and how they have been studied, we can identify common themes that show us important parts of human psychology, how culture is passed down, and how aware people are of their environment.
