Vulnerability of India's Agriculture to Climate Change: A Gender Perspective
The interaction between gender and climate change vulnerability, particularly in agriculture, is poorly documented in India. In this article, an attempt has been made to analyse the vulnerability of Indian agriculture to climate change from a gender perspective through a systematic literature review. This research includes the research articles published from 2000 to 2023, and 651 research articles were identified using the Scopus and WoS databases. Conference papers, articles in the press, and non-English articles were excluded to ensure the quality of the review. Using the PRISMA statement, 24 studies were selected for qualitative analysis. The results show that gender issues are not adequately addressed in studies on the impact of climate change on India's agriculture. More importantly, the studies that are presently accessible are limited in number and do not concentrate much on gender in relation to agricultural vulnerability. The findings revealed that women are more vulnerable than men to the impact of climate change on agriculture. The present study suggests that significant investments in the Indian agricultural industry in general and capacity building for farmers in particular are imperative to prevent maladaptive outcomes and to promote long-term sustainability.
