BLACK BRAZILIAN INTELLECTUALITY: A LITERATURE REVIEW STUDY
The study aimed to conduct a literature review on Black Brazilian intellectuality, based on the PRISMA protocol, to investigate academic discussions on the phenomenon. Initially, 33 works were found on the SciELO, BDTD, and CAPES platforms. After applying the filters, 20 works were selected for review: eight dissertations, four theses, and eight articles. The analysis, conducted using Bardin's Content Analysis approach, revealed two thematic categories: (i) Do Black intellectuals exist?; (ii) What is a properly Black intellectuality? The findings demonstrated that the social-subjective experience of Blackness is inscribed in the knowledge production of Black people, making it difficult to dissociate their personal experiences from their social thinking on race in Brazil, and reclaiming Black corporeality as an element present in the intellectuality of this population. Black intellectuality thus emerges as a process of redefining stereotypes, assuming the representation of an intellectuality of unity and totality, which permeates the understanding that knowledge is integral and elaborated through contextual tools. This study indicates that there is still no systematization of the term "Black intellectuality," highlighting a gap in the construction of new narratives and the validation of Black experiences in the production of knowledge. It also recommends the development of new research in this area, using new descriptors and at an international level.
