In Malaysia, It can be observed on many occasions that Tamil writers who have been actively contributing to literature for a long period, possess a strong tendency toward self – reflection. Most often their short stories tend to revolve around very limited theme such as family, the plantation, childhood and sexuality. Instead if Expressing dissent against authority, resistance to political oppression or resistance to racial discrimination their writings often emerge as hesitant and subdued reflecting a deep internalized fcar as through confined with in an invisible prison of the mind. This lends a sense of anguish to the reading experience. Additionally certain writers channel their discontent into literary expression focusing on the internal struggles with in the Indian community and the historical episodes of violence that have left a lasting impact. Yet, only a small number of Malaysian Tamil writers have genuinely contemplated and articulated the deeper struggles faced by migrant Indians residing in a nation shaped by diverse ethnicities and cultures. Owing to the overtly propagandist tone adopted by some writers, a limited psychological insight into the deeper social crises and the absence of a wide ranging political and literary vision many fictional works fail to achieve depth and are expressed in a Language that remains flat and unengaging. In such a context, K.S.Maniam is a distinguished figure who bravely choose to write about the sorrow and hardships faced by the lenience after congenial rule and the efforts they made to gain recreation and assert their identity in those circumstances.
