THE SEVERAN EXPANSION IN THE PROVINCE OF MAURETANIA CAESARIENSIS AND THE TRIBES' REACTION DURING THE FIRST THIRD OF THE THIRD CENTURY AD (REVOLT OF 227 AD)
Abstract: Through this research paper, we aim to shed light on the conditions witnessed by the province of Mauretania Caesariensis during the era of the Severans, by addressing the emperors' military expansion project in the region, which involved establishing a new military border line at the beginning of the third century AD, due to the desire to seize the rich plains world, all at the expense of the lands of the local tribes that practiced their agricultural and pastoral activities there. This aroused the resentment of the latter towards this unjust policy, through their military attacks against the Roman authority, the most prominent of which is known as the revolt of 227 AD, in order to regain their lands and restore their movements that they were accustomed to before, rejecting any Roman presence in the region.
