Novels occupy a prominent place in contemporary literature. Especially through ethnographic novels, we can know complete information about a particular ethnic group. In this way, the novel 'Azhukku' written by R. Manoharan effectively depicts the life of the Vannar people (washermen community people). This research article examines the origin of the Vannar people and the myths about them. This research article also examines the rituals involved in the lives of the Vannar people, their unique identities and the plight of the Vannar people. This research article also examines how the Vannar people, who are marginalized, have progressed through education.
