Automating Equity: AI and RPA Solutions for Perishable Goods Redistribution

This article introduces the first automation blueprint specifically designed to connect perishable surplus with food-insecure communities through artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation (RPA). It presents a novel, first-of-its-kind RPA community service model that resolves the paradoxical issue of food waste and hunger through automated redistribution systems. The article proposes an innovative technical framework including inventory tracking with predictive analytics, AI-based orchestration to match goods and receivers, and automated compliance management—components specifically designed to overcome traditional barriers to efficient redistribution. Through original case studies in the United States and Europe, the viability and effectiveness of this technological intervention model are demonstrated. The article addresses major technical challenges, including data integration across dissimilar systems, optimization of last-mile logistics, and quality control throughout the redistribution process. It concludes by outlining a path to scalable solutions through open, interoperable platforms that enable participation across the entire supply chain ecosystem, with emphasis on governance frameworks and value propositions that can drive mass adoption and sustainable change.
