Online Learning Platforms as Correlates of Librarians' Job Performance in Academic Libraries in Delta State
AbstractPurpose: This study investigates the relationship between online learning platforms and the job performance of academic librarians in Delta State, Nigeria.Methodology: Drawing on a census sample of 137 librarians across 14 tertiary institutions, data were collected via questionnaires and analysed using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and Pearson’s correlation. ANOVA and regression analyses were employed to examine the relationship between collaborative innovations and librarians’ job performance.Findings: The results indicate a moderate positive correlation (R = 0.432) between platform use and job performance, accounting for 18.7% of the variance in performance. ANOVA results confirmed the relationship as statistically significant (F = 6.026, p = .016). Librarians engaged in online professional development demonstrated greater adaptability, service quality, and user engagement. Conclusion: The study concludes that online learning platforms are critical for enhancing librarians’ skills and sustaining innovation in academic libraries. It recommends strengthening infrastructure, providing targeted digital training, and ensuring institutional support to maximise the benefits of online learning for library performance.
