Towards inclusive research assessment: CoARA WG TIER perspectives

The CoARA WG TIER is committed to identifying the causes of biases and to formulating actionable guidelines to counteract them. A comprehensive survey has been developed to (1) examine key biases in research assessment processes-spanning recruitment, career advancement, and grant allocation-within Research Performing and Research Funding Organizations; (2) to explore self-perceived biases; (3) to assess the organizational climate and anxiety perception across institutions, with attention to gender and other diversity dimensions; and (4) to critically rethink the concept of excellence through a more inclusive lens. TIER's ongoing efforts and preliminary survey insights are illustrated. The poster has been presented at the 29th Annual International Conference on Science and Technology Indicators (#STIENID2025) held at the University of Bristol, UK (3-5 September 2025) "Reconciliation of research and measurement"
