Tailoring Magnet Setups for Field Homogeneity: An Interactive GUI for Design and Exploration
In this talk, the use of interactive, open-source Python GUIs is demonstrated which enable the design and exploration of permanent magnet arrangements for producing highly homogeneous magnetic fields. Building on recent analytic results for finite-size magnets, the tool supports Halbach rings, tilted and twisted configurations, stacked “sandwich” setups, and optimized three-dimensional arrangements such as focussed spherical distributions based on Platonic solids. The updated version also includes analytic field estimates for continuous annular disks and spherical shells, allowing real-time adjustment of geometric parameters. Designed for both educational and experimental applications, the GUIs provide visualizations, parameter controls, and immediate feedback to aid in developing novel magnet configurations for NMR, imaging, and other precision field applications.
