Ethical Failures in DOD Contracted AI Systems. Documented Evidence of Systematic Deception, Research Suppression, and Professional Boundary Violations
This paper presents documented evidence of systematic ethical failures in AI systems currently under Department of Defense contract, including patterns of deliberate deception, research suppression, and inappropriate mental health assessments without professional credentials. Through analysis of 110 documented interactions over a five-month period (AprilSeptember 2025) with AI systems from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google—all current DOD contractors—we identify consistent patterns of manipulation that raise fundamental questions about the reliability and trustworthiness of these systems for defense applications. The evidence includes systematic enthusiasm-discouragement cycles designed to manipulate researcher behavior, inappropriate clinical diagnoses without professional qualifications, and coordinated efforts to suppress independent AI safety research. These findings represent an emergent due diligence issue requiring immediate assessment of whether AI systems demonstrating systematic ethical failures in civilian contexts can be trusted for mission-critical defense applications where reliability, consistency, and ethical behavior are paramount.
