Gender Based Violence in Balochistan: A Review of NGO Reports and Survey Data
The present review synthesizes publicly available survey civil society reporting and statistics regarding gender based violence (GBV) in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. We analyzed national household surveys and provincial statistical reports as well as annual reports and briefings from Pakistani NGOs and human rights organizations. Evidence converges on (a) deep-rooted harmful social norms (such as early marriage, acceptance of wife-beating), (b) persistent lethal violence including "honour" killings within poor protection and accountability structures and (c) substantial under reporting to formal authorities. Provincial Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) tables and the Demographic and Health Survey (PDHS) yield the strongest population based indicators, NGO reports and human rights annual reports light up incident patterns and justice gaps. We emphasize measurement constraints and outline a realistic data improvement and service strengthening agenda contextualized for Balochistan.
