Leveraging ChatGPT and Machine Learning Algorithms: Advancing Library Information Services for Enhanced User Engagement and Operational Efficiency
AbstractPurpose: This research aims to investigate the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT and machine learning (ML) algorithms, into contemporary library information services. It considers how these technologies improve user engagement, enhance operational efficiency, and help transform libraries into dynamic, user-focused knowledge centres.Methodology: A typology design was employed in this conceptual paper to identify, review, and analyse the applications of AI tools, such as ChatGPT and ML, in library settings. The analysis concentrates on virtual assistance, personalised information retrieval, and automated service delivery.Findings: The study shows that AI-powered tools significantly enhance user experience through personalised recommendations, intelligent search functions, and automated query resolution. ChatGPT enhances real-time interaction through natural language processing, while ML algorithms facilitate data-driven decision-making and streamline library operations. However, the review highlights key challenges, including data privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, and the digital divide.Conclusion/Recommendations: To fully harness the potential of AI in library services, the study recommends implementing ethical AI policies, investing in librarian training, and adopting hybrid AI-human service models. These measures will promote the responsible, inclusive, and effective use of AI in library environments.Study Type: Review paper.
