PERFORMANCE OF SORGHUM (Sorghum bicolor (L.) VARIETIES AS INFLUENCED BY AGROLYSER MICRONUTRIENTS IN SUDAN SAVANNAH OF NIGERIA

Field trial were carried out at the Teaching and Research farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Bayero University Kano (BUK), and the Research farm of Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic (BUPOLY) during 2023 raining season. The aim of the study was to evaluate the performance of sorghum verities as influenced by different levels of agrolyser micronutrients on growth and yield of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) varieties. The experiment comprised of five varieties (SAMSORG 45, SAMSORG 47, SAMSORG 49, SAMSORG 53 and SAMSORG 54), and four Agrolyser micro nutrient fertilizer (0, 2, 4 and 6 kg ha-1,). The treatments were laid out in split plot design replicated three times. The Varied level of Agrolyser micronutrients was assigned to the main plot while sorghum varieties were assigned to the sub-treatment Soil data was collected. Growth and yield parameters such as plant height (cm), days to 50% flag leaf, days to maturity and grain yield ha-1 were collected and subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) using Genstat (17th Edition). Treatment means were separated using Student-Newman Keuls Test. The result of the study shows that agrolyser micronutrients did not significantly affects plant height, at both locations. However, Significant effects of varieties on plant height at both locations were observed. Plants treated with 6 kg agrolyser produce the higher grain yield (2361-2599 kgha-1) than plants treated with 2kg kgha-1 agrolyser and control. Samsorg53 and samsorg45 were recorded to have higher grain yield (2560kg- 2095kgha-1) respectively. From the result of the study, it can be concluded that even though Agrolyaer levels did not have significant effects on some growth parameters of Sorghum, However, agrolyser and varietal difference resulted in significant yield, Samsorg53 and Samsorg45 were recorded to have higher grain yield compare to other varieties in the study. Therefore, farmers in the study area are recommended to adopt Samsorg53 and application of Agroyser 6kgha-1 so as to have a higher grain yield
