O processo de patrimonialização da Coleção Perseverança como patrimônio de memória sensível
This article is based on an ethnographic practice developed in the national patrimonialization process of the Perseverança Collection, made up of more than 200 sacred objects stolen from Afro-Brazilian cults in Alagoas in the violent episode of religious persecution known as Quebra de Xangô, which occurred in Maceió in 1912. The objective is to explore the process of attributing values to objects based on dialogues with Afro-Brazilian religious people, which were made possible through a Working Group constituted by the Brazilian Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute in Alagoas State. As a theoretical reference, in addition to conceptual discussions related to the field of heritage, I mobilize the notions of silencing the past and value regimes of things. Initially, I present a brief overview of the 1912 attacks in Maceió and approach the different forms of silencing that permeate the Quebra de Xangô as a historical process. Next, I characterize the dialogue developed in the institutional patrimonialization process and argue about a broader patrimonialization process of the Perseverança Collection carried out by the Afro-Brazilian religious in Alagoas. Finally, I investigate the tensions implied by the valuation of objects as sensitive memory heritage. As an ethnographic substrate, I mainly mobilize discussions and interviews carried out with Afro-Brazilian religious as part of the institutional patrimonialization process. The analysis points to the way in which the sensitive and underground memory that emerges as a value of the Perseverança Collection contests the silencing produced around the Quebra de Xangô, as well as its post repression, and denotes its denotes a regime of value that tensions scientific-museum objectification, raising questions about the place of the sacred in museums.
