A review of Strategies to Curb Agricultural Residue Burning in the Indo-Gangetic Plain
This paper, authored by Arpit Jha of Amity International School, Sector-46, reviews the persistent challenge of agricultural residue burning in the Indo-Gangetic Plain. Stubble burning, though a quick field-clearing method for farmers, results in severe air pollution, soil degradation, and health crises across North India. Drawing on survey data and literature, the research identifies economic and policy gaps as the root causes and proposes a three-pillar solution framework: technological and economic support, structural and policy reforms, and awareness with collaborative action. The study highlights that sustainable alternatives, not punitive bans, are the path to cleaner air and resilient agriculture.
