A Review of the Microstructural Characteristics of Dentin in Humans and Pigs as Animal Models
AbstractThis narrative review examines the microstructural features of dentin in human and porcine teeth as animal models and examines their similarities and differences in terms of structure, composition, and mechanical properties. Dentin is a mineralized tissue that constitutes the major part of the tooth and plays an important role in supporting enamel and maintaining tooth integrity. Due to the physiological and anatomical similarities of pigs to humans, this animal is used as a common animal model in dental and veterinary research. Understanding the microstructural features of dentin in different species is essential for the advancement of restorative dentistry, the development of biomaterials, and the treatment of dentin-related diseases.
