Tb/s Parallel Random Number Generation Based on Long-Cavity Fabry–Pérot Semiconductor Laser With Optical Feedback

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility of parallel random numbers generation (PRNG) based on longcavity Fabry-Pérot (LC-FP) semiconductor laser. A simple external optical feedback device is used to perturb the LC-FP laser. Due to the multi-mode beating, a broadband chaotic signal can be generated. 15-channel parallel chaotic signals are generated by filtering the raw chaotic signals using wavelength division multiplexer in the optical spectral range of 5 dB. Each channel contains two longitudinal modes and it is low correlated with other channels. After single-bit extraction, the single-channel rate of random number generation can reach 20 Gb/s. Subsequently, the feasibility of 15-channel PRNG is verified and the final rate can reach more than 300 Gb/s. In addition, we use 8-bit extraction method with minimum post-processing to generate random numbers which have a uniform probability distribution. There are no time delay characteristics when 6-LSBs are retained, indicating the randomness of the chaotic entropy, and the single-channel rate reaches to 100 Gb/s. The final PRNG rate using the 15-channel parallel chaotic signals can reach 9 Tb/s.
