Application of Dissolved Gas Analysis Interpretation Technology in Vegetable Oil: A Review
For more than a century, mineral oil has been used as a liquid insulation in power transformers. In addition to providing cooling and arc extinguishing functions, the quality/condition of transformer oil correlates with the condition of transformers, enabling diagnosis through oil analysis. However, the impact on the environment, lack of oil reserves, and disposal problems with used oils have prompted researchers to direct their focus on biodegradable and renewable insulation materials. Vegetable oil is considered a suitable alternative to mineral oil, with obvious advantages such as biodegradability and high fire point. Nevertheless, its high cost and low antioxidant capacity still limit its application. This paper introduces the main advantages of vegetable oil compared with mineral oil. Reviewed the gas generation of vegetable oils under typical faults. In addition, the current application status of dissolved gas analysis (DGA) interpretation technology in vegetable oils was described.
