Nature, Exile, and Human Responsibility: A Thematic Study of Selected Poems of Tasneem Hossain

Abstract This study explores the thematic, symbolic, and socio-cultural dimensions of selected poems- The Lighthouse, Before My Curtain is Drawn, Let’s Walk Together, You and I, The Eagle, Thoughts of an Immigrant, The Owl, Mothers of the Earth, and A Mother’s Oath. Through close reading and interdisciplinary analysis, the paper examines how these poems navigate human experiences of responsibility, mortality, exile, ecological awareness, and resilience. Using eco-criticism, feminist theory, postcolonial perspectives, existentialism, and archetypal analysis, the study highlights how nature, human agency, and social consciousness intersect. The poems articulate ethical duty and interconnectedness, emphasizing moral and emotional responsibilities that define human life and connect personal reflection to collective human concerns. Keywords: Human responsibility; Mortality and aging; Ecological consciousness; Feminist agency; Diasporic identity; Poetic symbolism; Archetypal motifs
