Duodenal atresia with bilio-enteric fistula - An uncommon complication
ABSTRACT The literature has documented associations between annular pancreas and duodenal atresia. Beyond the neonatal age-group, this condition hardly ever presents, unless there is aberrant contact between the stomach and distal duodenum. The bilio-enteric fistula is a rare entity and scarcely reported, especially in adult. We present a 4-year 3-month female child who had an annular pancreas with duodenal atresia. She unexpectedly appeared later than expected, most likely as a result of a gastrocholedochoduodenal fistula or a partial duodenal obstruction. A bilio-enteric fistula was discovered during an upper gastrointestinal study, and it was successfully treated by choledochoduodenostomy and gastroduodenostomy.
