The Implications of Crime Topics on Digital Platforms: An Analytical Study

Topics related to crime that are disseminated through digital platforms are considered to have a direct impact on the public, especially when published on platforms with high viewership and engagement, such as social media sites. This research sought to understand the implications of crime-related topics published on digital platforms and the primary media used to present and display them to recipients. This is a descriptive study that employed a survey methodology. To achieve its objectives, a content analysis tool, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative approaches, was used to analyze crime topics. Two platforms were selected: the Al-Sharqiya News page on Instagram and the "Al-Khawa Al-Nadhifa" page on Facebook. All crime-related posts on both pages were monitored and analyzed using a comprehensive census method. The total number of posts amounted to (356) on the Al-Sharqiya News page and (49) on the "Al-Khawa Al-Nadhifa" page within the specified six-month period. The study concluded that the volume and density of traditional crime topics were greater than the publication of topics on cybercrime and information-related crime, with a focus on murder and war crimes. Keywords: Traditional Crime, Cybercrime, Digital Platforms
