Is handling publications and advancement a challenging task for medical faculty members?

Faculty personnel in medicine are the victims of all. I say this because medical faculties have their own needs as well as those of their students, technicians, administration, senior colleagues, and themselves to consider. These people include teaching, reporting, interacting with mentees and allocating time for them, and administrative tasks such as obtaining accreditations from organizations such as NAAC, NABL, NABH, JCI, ISO, and others. Thus, how is it possible for a single faculty member to handle all of these duties and the additional responsibility of counting publications? As an organization, we are aware that we have the necessary resources—money, manpower, and infrastructure—but we also require teamwork, time, and effort. What person could expect all of these things at once? Additionally, NMC is solely taking publication standards and research workshops or training into consideration for promotions. Furthermore, the criteria are continually changing. According to the most recent revisions to the rules and regulations in effect, a faculty member’s evaluation is based solely on the published articles (original articles, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and case series) that she has under her belt; the other routine matters (as stated in the communication) are considered. I therefore question why a member would do anything different when she is aware that her career advancement is contingent only upon completing a set number of required research papers.[1] Hence, it is important to check the status of the promotion rules by visiting the NMC website and entering the TEQ.[2] First, the case reports were excluded, then only the first and second then only the first and corresponding authors were used to consider. Hence, these were various notches in consideration for promotion criteria. The present system or the regulations encourage bad practices like the low-quality research required in less time of form management pressure to fulfill the criteria, or publishing in predatory journals, especially for PG students, as 2 publications are mandatory before taking the final examination. In addition, at the faculty level, it will make a kind of war as only the first and corresponding author will be considered, so novice writers will find it difficult to cope with all these difficulties and will lose hope and enthusiasm for manuscript writing and publications. For publication credits, only a small number of indexing and abstracting companies are acknowledged. The quality of the paper holds greater significance than the journal’s quality. Therefore, it should be sufficient to publish in a journal that has appropriate peer review in place and is indexed by any indexing and abstracting body.[3] As an instructor, additional factors should be considered, such as prior teaching experience, student feedback, mentor-mentee relationships, the number of lectures given over the years, the number of students the teacher has led for STS and ICMR, and the interest in outputs and outcomes shared by all. However, publications alone should not be the only basis for promotion, as these vary every day. Every day tasks like PGP, allied course instruction, paper setup, and exam conducting should also be considered, as these are all highly challenging to handle. The real quality of publications or other important factors that a medical teacher should consider include teaching, mentoring by postgraduate and undergraduate students, student satisfaction and communication during the teaching process, regular patient care provided to admitted patients, clinical knowledge and disease treatment, innovative teaching and learning strategies, inventions of tools, methods, and patents, involvement in various academic levels of activities, and administrative support provided by the college and university.[4] We can all agree that faculty should always be growing and staying current, which is why credit points are needed for registration renewal. Thus, everything needs to be balanced. ME please attend the seminars to get the credit points needed for renewal. Currently, although we would like to attend, examinations are taking place, thus we are unable to do so. Since, NMC requires 75% attendance, punching is a problem once more. Therefore, it is quite challenging for medical professionals to work as medical faculty at any medical facility and maintain a balance among all of these responsibilities. Hence, establishing some appropriate goals. A centralized authority should maintain coordination with all parties to balance the requirements that the medical faculty must meet to advance and survive. Since they were young faculty members, they have only been studying to eventually settle down and lead a normal life like other field members. Simply stating that we are performing excellent work and earning a daily income is something that should not occur. A depressing time in our lives. Financial support and sponsorship Nil. Conflicts of interest There are no conflicts of interest.

Abstract

Faculty personnel in medicine are the victims of all. I say this because medical faculties have their own needs as well as those of their students, technicians, administration, senior colleagues, and themselves to consider. These people include teaching, reporting, interacting with mentees and allocating time for them, and administrative tasks such as obtaining accreditations from organizations such as NAAC, NABL, NABH, JCI, ISO, and others.
