Geological Efficiency of 2D Seismic Exploration in the Koshadash Area of the North Apsheron Oil and Gas Bearing Region of Azerbaijan
Object of study – the Koshadash structure, which is the main object of research, has a pan-Caucasian strike (i. e., extends from northwest to southeast) and is complicated by 9 tectonic faults that run mainly along the strike of the structure and divide it into blocks. Methodology. The article discusses the results of 2D seismic studies in the Kosadash area of different years, based on which structural maps of five seismic horizons were constructed, confined to different stratigraphic levels, from which 2 maps were selected that display the structure of the Cretaceous surface and the Miocene surface, which are described in detail in the article. The structural maps display the western parts of such large tectonic elements as: the North Absheron uplift zone, where the Koshadash, Western Absheron and Northern Absheron structures, the Sumgait-Kelkor syncline and the North Absheron depression are located. Conclusions. Seismic recording on the vault and vault parts of the structure is characterized by a chaotic arrangement of in-phase axes; a complex interference wave pattern is observed in places with a weak recording level. In addition, the sparse network of profiles, not always located across the strike, the spatial multidirectionality of the planes of propagation of reflected waves, the abundance of waves arriving at the seismic profiles not in the section plane (i.e., not in the vertical plane, lateral waves) did not make it possible to study in detail the structure of the Koshadash structure. Therefore, to study this structure, which has a complex structure, 3D seismic exploration is recommended.
