FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF BETA CYCLODEXTRIN BASED NANOSPONGES CREAM CONTAINING DESONIDE FOR SKIN DISEASE

The study focused on the formulation and evaluation of a beta-cyclodextrin-based nanosponge cream containing Desonide for the treatment of skin diseases. Pre-formulation studies confirmed the identity and quality of Desonide through organoleptic analysis, melting point determination (214 °C), pH (3.9), and solubility testing, which showed poor water solubility but good solubility in acetone and DMSO. IR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of key functional groups. Nanosponges were successfully formulated and characterized, with F4 showing the best results in terms of smallest particle size (59.91 nm), highest entrapment efficiency (97.41%), and optimal zeta potential (-12.7 mV). SEM analysis revealed a spherical, porous morphology. The nanosponge-loaded cream formulation exhibited desirable physical characteristics, including a semisolid white appearance, good homogeneity, mild odour, appropriate pH (6.5), ideal viscosity (3782 cps), excellent spreadability (7.42 gm·cm/sec), and no skin irritation. These findings suggest that the developed cream is stable, safe, and potentially effective for topical application in skin disorders.
