Voices from the Lab: Addressing Oral Communication Gaps in Pharmacy Students of India
English proficiency is a crucial component for pharmacy students in the current globalized health care setup.Students struggle to convey clear information despite having content clarity that in turn counts against their academic marks, in class presentations, job interviews, post M Pharm (Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences), PhD, and patient communication. This study examines their needs in spoken English through a needs analysis using qualitative approaches such as semi-structured interviews, open-ended questionnaires, and classroom observation. It identifies critical gaps and oral communication challenges and calls for immediate integration of communicative English training in the pharmacy course.Such training has the potential to enhance confidence, employability, and patient care abilities.
