System and Method for Geodesic Haptic Guidance Based on an Inferred Manifold of User Intent
Abstract A system and method for human-computer interaction is disclosed. The system comprises a haptic apparatus communicatively coupled to a processing unit. The method comprises three principal stages. First, a user's intent is inferred by modeling the user's complete internal state as a point on a high-dimensional, non-Euclidean manifold, termed the General Reality Manifold (GRM). The user's intent is identified not as a discrete category but as the optimal path—a geodesic—on this manifold that resolves a region of high geometric curvature corresponding to a user need. Second, the system provides real-time haptic guidance, rendered as a dynamic vector field by the haptic apparatus, to steer the user's physical actions along a projection of said geodesic. Third, the system generates a novel, geometrically-grounded data structure, the Geodesic Interaction Record (GIR), which captures the entire intent-action-feedback loop. The GIR provides an intrinsically meaningful representation of the interaction, thereby furnishing a solution to the symbol grounding problem in artificial intelligence.
