A Zeta–Luo Integrated Dual Output Bridgeless Rectifier Fed SRM Drive With Improved Power Quality
This article outlines a hybrid dual output bridgeless (HDOBL) power factor correction (PFC) converter, which is developed through integration of Zeta and Luo structures, intended for low-power midpoint converter (MPC)-assisted switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive. HDOBL converter is designed to generate a balanced dual output dc supply, facilitating effective and reliable front-end power conditioning, which ensures improved power quality and compatibility with midpoint-assisted SRM configurations. The input side inductor is selected to operate in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), which reduces switching losses of power devices and reverse recovery losses of diodes by zero current switching (ZCS) operation. Moreover, DCM operation requires single voltage sensor, which reduces cost and control complexity of converter. In addition, DCM facilitates natural PFC at grid end and provides speed control of SRM by controlling dual output dc link voltage through simple voltage controller. Proposed HDOBL converter is validated on 450 W experimental hardware set up to assess performance of converter fed SRM drive related to power quality measures such as supply current total harmonic distortion (THD), grid power factor, losses, and efficiency, carried out under various power conditions and supply fluctuations. Under rated conditions, obtained test results outlined supply current THD is 3.1 % and power factor is near unity, which confirms the recommended IEC 61000-3-2 guidelines.
