Recombinant DNA Technology
This presentation provides a structured and research-oriented overview of Recombinant DNA Technology, a cornerstone of modern molecular biology and biotechnology. It explains the mechanistic basis of gene manipulation, with particular focus on the enzymatic functions of restriction endonucleases and DNA ligase as essential molecular tools for DNA cleavage and ligation. The role of vectors, such as plasmids, is discussed in detail, alongside a stepwise outline of the recombinant DNA workflow—from gene isolation and enzymatic processing to ligation and transformation into host systems. The presentation also highlights the wide-ranging applications of recombinant DNA, spanning therapeutic innovations like recombinant insulin and gene therapy, agricultural advancements such as pest-resistant crops, and industrial biotechnology. Supplementary topics, including DNA fingerprinting and cloning, are introduced to illustrate the broader scientific and societal impact of genetic engineering. Designed for a student-researcher audience, this work serves both as an academic primer and as a foundation for deeper inquiry into molecular biotechnology.
