A Study on Mental and Physical Fitness of Male Inter-Collegiate Student-Athletes
Abstract This study explores the effect of a structured six-week training program on the mental and physical fitness of 50 male inter-collegiate student-athletes aged 18–24 years from various colleges in Chandrapur district. Participants were selected through random sampling. The training included cardio, strength, flexibility, and mental conditioning exercises. Physical fitness was measured using the Physical Fitness Index (PFI), and mental fitness was assessed using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28). Significant improvements were found in cardiovascular endurance (t = 5.42), muscular strength (t = 5.78), flexibility (t = 6.01), and mental fitness (t = 6.15), all statistically significant at the 0.05 level. The study concludes that structured physical and mental training has a positive impact on student-athletes' overall fitness.
