CHALLENGES OF PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT IN NGO PROJECTS: INSIGHTS FROM UZBEKISTAN

This article explores the key challenges of procurement management in non-governmental organization (NGO) projects, with a particular focus on Uzbekistan. Effective procurement is essential for ensuring transparency, efficiency, and value for money in development projects; however, NGOs often face unique obstacles compared to governmental and private sector actors. Based on a review of international best practices and local case studies, the paper highlights challenges such as complex regulatory environments, donor compliance requirements, limited supplier capacity, and risks of non-transparency. Insights from Uzbekistan demonstrate that while NGOs apply global procurement standards, they must also adapt to local market conditions and institutional constraints. The article concludes with recommendations for improving procurement management in NGO projects, including capacity building, digitalization of procurement processes, and fostering stronger supplier relationships. These findings contribute to the broader discourse on project management and provide practical implications for NGOs operating in transitional economies.
