The Role of Marathi Language in Shaping Modern Literature and Culture in a Global Context
Abstract The Marathi language, with its rich literary and cultural heritage, has played a pivotal role in shaping not only regional literature but also influencing broader cultural dynamics in the modern global context. Rooted in centuries of literary traditions and social movements, Marathi has produced works that blend indigenous cultural values with global literary trends. This paper examines the evolution of Marathi literature from its early classical texts to its contemporary forms, exploring its role in cultural identity formation, social change, and transnational dialogue. The study draws on historical, literary, and sociolinguistic perspectives to highlight how Marathi literature engages with modernism, postcolonial discourse, and global literary networks. Through a critical analysis of representative works and movements, the paper underscores the ongoing significance of Marathi in shaping modern literature and culture at both local and global levels.
