Antimicrobial Activity of the Herbal Product BACTEROMAT HERB Against Paenibacillus larvae and Melissococcus plutonius - Causative Agents of Fouldbrood Diseases in Bees

European foulbrood (EFB) should not be confused with American foulbrood (AFB), which is caused by a different bacterium and has different symptoms and control. AFB caused by Paenibacillus larvae and EFB caused by Melissococcus plutonius are the most important bacterial diseases and worldwide diseases. The use of herbal products with proven antibacterial activity is a reliable alternative to the use of antibiotics and the spread of antibiotic resistance in beekeeping. In this study, following in vitro and in vivo experi¬ments, we established that both diseases can be effectively treated with the same commercial herbal product (BACTEROMAT HERB), which demonstrated antibacterial activity against P. larvae and M. plutonius.
