The Effects of Aerobic Exercise and Smart Signal Exercise on Dementia Incidence Factors in Middle-Aged Women with Metabolic Syndrome
This study attempted to identify changes in dementia-related factors (β-amyloid, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate; hereinafter referred to as DHEAS) in elderly women with metabolic syndrome according to exercise treatment methods. The subjects of this study were 30 elderly women (65-74 years old) registered at the Senior Citizens’ Welfare Center in J-gu, S-si, Gyeonggi-do. They were divided into 10 CG (control group), 10 AEG (aerobic exercise group), and 10 SSEG (cognitive exercise group). They exercised for 60 minutes three times a week for 12 weeks, and the following conclusions were obtained. Before and after exercise treatment, β-amyloid blood variables within the group showed significant decreases in SSEG and AEG (SSEG: p < .001, AEG: p < .05), and CG showed no significant difference, and in the difference between groups through post-hoc verification, SSEG and had significantly greater reductions/increases than CG (p < .05). Within the group by exercise treatment, DHEAS blood variables before and after showed a significant increase in SSEG (SSEG: p < .05), and there was no significant difference in AEG and CG, but in the difference between groups through post-hoc verification, SSEG showed a greater increase than CG (p < .05). The results of this study showed that among each dementia-related factor, the concentration of β-amyloid showed a significant difference in SSEG and AEG, and DHEAS showed a significant difference in SSEG, and physical activity for dementia prevention should be performed regularly and continuously, and it was found that cognitive exercise focusing on language and behavior may be more effective.
