Optimization of Control Valves in Mechanical Systems for Enhanced Efficiency and Reliability
Control valves play a pivotal role in regulating fluid flow, pressure, and temperature within mechanical systems, directly influencing operational stability, safety, and efficiency. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of control valve performance parameters, including flow coefficient (Cv), valve sizing accuracy, response time, and leakage characteristics. Experimental investigations were conducted on various valve types—globe, ball, and butterfly—under different operating conditions, focusing on dynamic response, hysteresis, and control accuracy. The effects of actuator type, positioner tuning, and fluid properties on valve behavior were assessed using both steady-state and transient tests. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were employed to visualize flow patterns and predict pressure drops across different valve configurations. Results indicate that precise valve selection, appropriate actuator control strategies, and periodic maintenance significantly enhance performance and prolong service life. The findings provide a decision-making framework for engineers to optimize control valve design and selection for diverse mechanical systems, leading to improved process control, reduced energy losses, and operational cost savings.
