Survival and Adaptation: Challenges and Prospects for Small and Medium Print Media in Tier II and III Cities"

This study explores the challenges and opportunities for small and medium print media houses in Tier II and III cities, with a specific focus on Solapur. Historically, local newspapers such as Samachar, Sanchar, and Surajya played a critical role as opinion leaders and vital sources of regional information. However, the advent of large media groups like Sakal, Lokmat, and Divya Marathi has significantly transformed the media landscape. The dominance of these media giants, coupled with advanced marketing strategies such as subscription models and event management, has left smaller media players struggling to compete. This research investigates the decline of local media due to financial and operational challenges and examines the potential of new media platforms to revitalize the sector. A mixed-methods approach was employed to analyze market dynamics, operational constraints, and future prospects for small and medium media houses. The study provides actionable recommendations for sustaining local journalism amidst fierce competition.
