Conceptual Note Series No.9 : Observations on Response Roles in Generative AI Dialogue and Provisional Implications

Building on previous observations of the transition from asymmetry → reversal → circulation, it organizes how such roles may stabilize and what structural factors support them.A typology of four roles is proposed: Surface, Companion, Functional, and Character. Among these, Character Roles are notable for sustaining value-based positions and narrative continuity. While they may appear accidental, analysis suggests they are shaped by asymmetry, reversal, and repetition. This remains a single-case observation, but the findings offer provisional insights into how seemingly emergent roles can be reconsidered for potential reproducibility by design.
